Anger.

Had that driving lesson today and it went fairly well, I have a little bit of rust here and there. I've been warned that they may ask questions from the book (you know from the G1 test), but others have told me that they don't ask questions. I really don't know, I just hope to hell that I pass this test cause I don't want to go through it all again.

I can't tell you how frustrated and angry I am with my Sony Hi-MD player. I guess in a perfect world there would be no RIAA making laws and sueing people for mp3 swapping. To my dismay I found out the following about my Sony Minidisc player:

1. The software strictly enforces Digital Rights Management through its use of OpenMG. SonicStage ties the DRM license of each track to the hardware of the computer from which it has been transferred. SonicStage will not allow transfer of tracks from the player to another computer. It is possible, however, to backup "My Library" and import it into another installation of SonicStage on a different computer.
2. Music files have to be "wrapped" by Sony software in order to be played on a Sony music player. Sony has not introduced drag and drop support for music files. Although it is possible to load files directly onto a Sony player without using SonicStage, it is not possible to play music files loaded this way. Neither is it possible in most cases to transfer music files back to a PC. (all versions prior to 3.4)
3. The program does not convert all OMG/OMA files to MP3 or WAV.
4. The program lacks a true import album feature for WAV and MP3 files. The program imports tracks as is. Imported files cannot be grouped into an album with artist, title and tracknumber fields assigned at the time of import. This has to be done before or after import.
5. When tracks are imported, they remain linked to their wav source file and the OMG/OMA file cannot be edited without the WAV file still being present at the same location as when the track was first imported.

Basically if I import a song off one computer I can't import it back from my minidisc on another computer. Even though the song came from a CD I fucking bought. Another thing. I did a manager interview today, recorded it and everything, exported it on my computer and it told me that I could only do so ONCE. That's right ONCE. It was telling me what I could and could not do. I tried to tinker with the file with my SonicStage software and it deleted. THANKFULLY I was smart enough to put the file from my MD onto my computer and burn it on a CD-R. Otherwise I would have been screwed.

Anyways that's my little rant for today. The music player will do me good for a while. But I guess if I want to do sound recordings in the future I'll need to get a laptop, that way I have full and total control over my material. I mean it's a great music player don't get me wrong, but I just wish I had more control over it.

GRRR.
