Want Some Fries With Your PU...
Listening to Howard Stern right now, have to wait til later today to download Tuesday's episode, but my God was Monday ever funny. Speaking of Monday, man that was an interesting day yesterday. Started off waking up at like 07:30 hours, getting ready to go to school cause I have to lead the discussion for a computer studies course from 10:00 til 12:00. So we get to the school, me and Adam, and we go to the computer studies office and we know we have to show a video of ecological design... but we have no idea where the video is. And let me tell ya at 9 in the morning, there are no fucking secretarys anywhere. Why do they make students have class that early, but no one in the administration has to get up that early? It's fucking unfair.
So 10 o'clock comes around we go to seminar, the plan is stall the students first by saying we'll answer questions about the midterm and assignments while the other TAs will look for the damn video. But fortunately the video was in the class room the whole time. Lucky it wasn't lifted either cause this morning we checked out the class room and there is a chinese student writing equations on the board for a white girl. Weirdest thing I've seen that early in the day. So about over 70 students roll in to the class and we show the video. After it's done I get up there and start talking, no one else wants to, but whenever I'm asking a question they all just stare blankly across at me. It was something I was unprepared for. They just fucking stared at me. So we continued asking a few more questions, some people said some stupid stuff and I got sick of it and say:
"Ok well that's it for today, if anyone has any questions about the midterm or assignment I'll answer them."
And all these hands go up. When is the midterm. What's on the midterm. Do we need to read the textbook. Like holy fucking shit, was I like these deadbeats? You are so worried about a stupid midterm but you SAY NOTHING when we're in discussion about a video that will be on it. Worry about getting your dollars worth and SAY SOMETHING discuss about the material. Fucking tards.
Well afterwards I wrote my ADMN 223H midterm, and it went fairly well, I mean I could have studied a lot better but I figure I got about 75% or more on it. There was like 60 multiple choice questions, and I'd say about half of them were really obvious, and somewhat funny. When I get the midterm back I'll post some of the questions to show ya what I mean.
I get back home to chill out for a bit, and I have another class to TA for at 19:00 hours, and I'm trying to think about how I'm going to do things differently. I get there and I'm looking around for the video cause class is about to start... and no video. Shit. Luckily one of the newbloods had his laptop with the video on his computer. Thank fucking God. Can you imagine if there was no video and I had to talk for like 2 hours? Well we watch the video and I take down notes, and instantly I pick out two things that are common between the two videos. I think the focus was medieval communities and their systems, and BioSphere systems. So I'm talking about that in class... you know, instead of saying it, I'm giving them a heads up. And they are staring blankly at me. And then these old people in class start talking about corporations and ethics:
"Yeah there was some guy from Nike in the 70s, who did such and such, blah blah blah, if you took the 300 level ethics course you would know what I'm talking about."
"Yeah I took that course. So anyways, even though this video is about corporations, remember to focus on systems."
Fuck after 30 mins I could tell nobody wanted to be there. I had nothing to say so I told them to get lost. But the worst part is on the bus some guy sat beside me and kept asking me about what to do about the midterm. My God. Read the books and go to class, not that hard to do.
I love being a TA though, not sure why, maybe I just got the shakey starts or something. But it was so different than doing a presentation in front of a class. I've done presentations in front of bigger groups than that, but for some reason when I was teaching I just got so nervous... and got MORE nervous when nobody was saying anything. It'll probably be the only time I'd get a chance to teach. Oh well.
So happy valentines day everyone! I was going to send ecards last night, you know, so people wake up and get them. But I couldn't bother... but I'm thinking later on I'll send some, maybe make my own. Will see how that goes.
Well I woke up today, listened to the rest of Stern, downloaded some stuff, and now I got to get ready for school. No classes or anything but I'm meeting up with my good friend Jill and maybe study for accounting.
